And the nominees are…
The 2023 Emmy nominations were announced Wednesday via a live stream at Emma’s official website AND Facebook page.
Act Your Age star Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy president Frank Scherma led the announcement of the nominations.
Two years ago, Brown won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”
“Succession” garnered essentially the most praise, garnering a staggering 27 nominations, while “Ted Lasso”, “The Bear”, “Beef”, “Abbott Elementary” and “The White Lotus” also performed exceptionally well. Kevin Costner and “Yellowstone” were ignored apart from one technical category.
Ray Liotta, who died in 2022 of heart failure on the age of 67, received a posthumous nod (for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, for Apple’s “Black Bird”).
HBO led the rankings, dominating the “Best Drama” category with 4 of the 8 nominated shows. Nevertheless, despite being recognized as “Best Drama”, “House of the Dragon” was snubbed in all of the acting categories – so no nods to stars Matt Smith, Paddy Considine or Emma D’Arcy.
Selena Gomez she was also snubbed as a number one actress within the comedy series Only Murders within the Constructing category (she was nominated as executive producer last 12 months), and Sam Claflin was snubbed for Prime Video’s Daisy Jones & The Six, while co-stars Riley Keough and Camila Morrone were nominated.
Rihanna received her first Emmy in a novel special category (live) for her Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show.
Elton John is now one step closer to EGOT status as his “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium” can be nominated for “Outstanding Special Variety (Live). He already has five Grammys, two Oscars and a Tony, and could be only the nineteenth EGOT in history.
The seventy fifth Emmy Awards will happen on September 18 in Los Angeles. Viewers can watch on Fox at 20:00 EST.
The host of this 12 months’s show just isn’t yet known.
