A person and woman who were mistakenly suspected of buying Bud Light were the victims of assault and “anti-homosexual slurs” in a “possible hate incident” outside a Canadian liquor store, in accordance with a police report.
AND York Regional Police Report he said that “one of the suspects commented on the male victim’s selection of alcohol.”
Police spokesman said Global News that the suspect believed the victim had made a Bud Light purchase and “was uttering derogatory slurs against homosexuals as he approached the victim.”
“Two more suspects became involved” and the 26-year-old male victim was then knocked to the bottom because the 27-year-old victim was attacked, as explained within the police report.
“The victim required hospital treatment for his injuries” after the May 6 attack outside the LCBO liquor store on Jane Street and Major Mackenzie Drive West in Vaughan, Ontario.
Although the assault was triggered by an alleged purchase of Bud Light, the male victim “didn’t even have Bud Light,” a police spokesman told Global News.
It was also not disclosed what type of beer the victim purchased from a liquor store in Vaughan, Ontario.
Police said attackers can have thought the rainbow coloring had something to do with Bud Light after a recent beer brand controversy involving transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
“My guess is there have been some rainbow colours on the cans and that is the way it was initiated,” the spokesman said.
The three suspicious men fled the scene in a black Nissan Rogue.
York Regional Police released two photos of only one of the suspects.
He’s pictured wearing a black Adidas jacket and jeans with visible tattoos on his jawline and hands.
Suspect #2 is believed to have been wearing a red Cristiano Ronaldo football shirt and police haven’t released any description of suspect #3.
The identities of the suspects and victims haven’t yet been released.
“A crowd of people is believed to have been within the vicinity on the time of the incident,” the police report said, asking other witnesses who were on the scene to return forward.
York Regional Police didn’t immediately reply to The Post’s request for comment.
In early April, a photograph of Mulvaney’s face printed on one Bud Light can have sparked a culture war online over the brand’s awakening marketing move.
It then prompted a boycott of Anheuser-Busch-owned beer, resulting in a 23.4% year-on-year decline in sales across the US within the week starting April 29, in accordance with data from Bump Williams Consulting and NielsenIQ.
This figure is worse than the 21.4% drop in US Bud Light per week earlier.
It isn’t clear how much Bud Light sales have fallen in Canada because the controversy began.
But since Anheuser-Busch saw sales plummet across its beer portfolio – Budweiser and Michelob Ultra sales down 11.4% and 4.4% respectively within the week ending April 29 – Bud Light’s competitors took the chance to flaunt their along with your patriotism.
Just this week, Yuengling launched limited edition red, white and blue cans to support veterans with the fitting marketing move.
The cans feature a desert camouflage print and the Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) logo, which is a non-profit military support organization that Yuengling created the cans with.
Yuengling debuted the ultra-patriotic release in an Instagram post on Monday.
“Our summer style is back. Rock the Stars & Stripes with us,” read the caption.
