Fan-favorite “Jeopardy!” winner Mattea Roach is mourning his 57-year-old father, Philip Roach, who suffered a fatal brain aneurysm earlier this month.
He died on May 2 at his home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, while Mattea, 24, was filming the ultimate episodes of Jeopardy! championship tournament, reports Buzz from Nova Scotia.
The Post contacted Roach for comment.
“Phil’s 4 children were the best joy of his life, and he tried to impart to all of them his wisdom and enthusiasm for all times through long lectures on local history, Trivial Pursuit beatings, and music and film lessons from before their time,” reading an internet obituary.
“Phil could possibly be relied upon to brag equally about all his children, no matter the size and scope of their achievements. He was the proudest dad around and he made that clear to anyone who would listen.”
Based on the obituary, Philip was incredibly pleased with Mattei and was scheduled to steer “Jeopardy!” watch parties.
“He was an exceptionally generous host and spent many hours in his kitchen through the years preparing elaborate, multi-course meals that he would inevitably find ‘excellent.’ He was all the time incorrect about that – they were delicious,” reads the obituary.
Roach often spoke highly of his father.
In 23 straight matches, Roach shared with him a want to attend a Kraftwerk concert – a dream that got here true in June 2022.
“I doubt anyone will put money into my Jeopardy anecdote about going to Kraftwerk with my dad, but in case anyone is: After ten years of talking about it, I’m finally going to see Kraftwerk with my dad.” Roach tweeted next to an image of their dad.
After their streak resulted in May 2022, Roach took to Twitter to thank his parents for his or her support.
“My parents have been very patient with me and encouraged me to review from day one and I’m so thankful for the way well they handled being pulled out of the highlight because of this of my time on Jeopardy,” Roach tweeted.
In interview with the CBARoach’s father expressed pride.
“She probably began reading when she was about 3 years old,” he explained. “He just all the time shows an interest, not necessarily in scientists, but in learning for fun.
“She’s been recognized as a part of the LGBTQ community, so that offers visibility and possibly inspires kids to be who they’re, just give it their all and good things occur,” he added.
“Danger!” fans expressed their condolences online.
“Ugh, that is so sad. I used to be so enchanted by the interviews with Matteas’ parents during their run as they were clearly so very proud and delighted with their baby” one fan wrote on Reddit.
“It’s terrible. If he could see Mattea this week, he’d be so proud. the opposite person commented.
“I send my condolences to Mattei. Hearing them discuss their podium dad so over and over, it’s clear he played an enormous role of their love of music and general curiosity.” lamented a 3rd person.
