The movie killed.
Martin Scorsese’s latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, received a nine-minute standing ovation at the film’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.
Scorsese, 80, joined other forged members: Leonardo DiCaprio, 48, Robert De Niro, 79, and Lily Gladstone, 36, reports Deadline.
The nearly three-and-a-half-hour film, adapted from David Grann’s book of the same name, is about in Nineteen Twenties Oklahoma. murders of members of the oil-rich Osage nationwhich was later called the Reign of Terror and led to the founding of the FBI.
The Post reached out to Scorsese for comment.
“It took a while to recuperate, but Apple did a great job shooting us there… there was a lot of grass – I’m a Recent Yorker,” the Goodfellas director said in a speech after the film. “We also lived on this world with the Osages, really, and we actually miss it.”
The director of The Wolf of Wall Street also thanked the audience, saying: “I do not think I’ve ever experienced that [anything] I like this.”
One early film review it was called “Leonardo DiCaprio’s best performance yet.”
“Dignity and concern for the Osage perspective were real and fair throughout the process, and the Osage responded with the passion and enthusiasm that accompanied this historic moment.” praised the former leader of the Osage tribe, Jim Gray.
“For those of us who watched from the sidelines as our greatest and brightest amongst us auditioned, sewed, serviced, painted, acted and advised filmmakers, it should be hard to not feel our presence in helping to inform the story.”
Scorsese’s film wasn’t the only movie to hit the headlines.
Harrison Ford’s digitally rejuvenated face appeared at the world premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Former Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp also showed up to advertise his latest movie Jeanne Du Barry and he received a seven-minute standing ovation because of his portrait of King Louis XV.
At a press conference for the film, Depp criticized Tinseltown, saying the industry had “boycotted” him during the libel lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.
Killers of the Flower Moon is scheduled for a limited release on October 6, 2023, followed by a nationwide release on October 20.
