Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has tested positive for Covid-19 days after getting back from official visits to South Africa and Kenya.
“I’m generally wonderful, but my doctors have advised me to self-isolate until I’m asymptomatic,” Lee said on Monday in Facebook post. “In addition they prescribed me Paxlovid, an antiviral drug, due to my age.”
Lee, 71, has been the Southeast Asian city-state’s prime minister since 2004. In response to Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was in South Africa and Kenya from May 14-19.
Singapore recovers from April peak of Covid-19 infections.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said on May 9 that only about half of individuals in Singapore aged 60 and over are up so far on Covid-19 vaccinations, down from 58% in early 2023.
