Former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman has apparently reunited with the band greater than 30 years after leaving the group.
Wyman, 86, will appear on a song off The Stones’ upcoming album, The Sun reported on Friday, as a tribute to their late drummer Charlie Watts, who died on the age of 80 in August 2021 after a fight with throat cancer.
Singer Mick Jagger, 79, reportedly invited Wyman to recording sessions in Los Angeles to work on the track.
“Bill hadn’t seen the band in years, but he’d all the time loved Charlie. This record is admittedly a tribute to Charlie, so he couldn’t refuse,” the source said.
The late Watts’ drums may also appear on the album, which will probably be the Stones’ first studio release since his death.
Paul McCartney, 80, and Ringo Starr, 82, of The Beatles may also reportedly play bass and drums respectively on the album.
The Post reached out to representatives from The Rolling Stones and Wyman for comment.
Wyman left the Stones in 1993 after 30 years with the band.
In 2022, he claimed that he didn’t regret it, although he admitted that it was not the simplest change.
“It was pretty stressful and so they didn’t want me to go away so that they got mean,” Wyman told fellow rocker Alice Cooper on his “Nights with Alice Cooper podcast.
“As an alternative of being nice and saying, ‘Great 30 years. Cheers, man.” Mick said essentially the most ridiculous, silly things with that rotten attitude he had. He would say things like, “Well, if someone has to play the bass, I’ll do it.” It may possibly’t be that onerous.” — and Keith [Richards] he said, “Nobody leaves this band unless it’s in a picket box.”
He continued: “Anyway, they left the door open for me for 2 years. Charlie and Mick would call and say, “You are not likely leaving, are you? Have you ever thought it yet again? Then, when it got here time for the ’94/’95 tour (Voodoo Lounge), that they had to make a final decision.
“Mick and Charlie got here and spent the evening with me, attempting to get me to remain. Did I regret not coming back? None, he claimed.
The Stones released their last studio “Blue & Lonesome” in 2016.
