FedEx and United Parcel Service warned that packages could possibly be delayed as a robust winter storm brought strong winds, bitter cold and snow to large swathes of the US ahead of the vacation weekend.
The cruel weather has already made air travel difficult during what is predicted to be a busy week for airlines.
“FedEx Express experienced significant disruption to our Memphis and Indianapolis hubs last night because of the tough winter weather that swept across the US,” FedEx said on Friday. He said packages set for delivery on Friday and Saturday, which is Christmas Eve, could possibly be delayed across the US
UPS said severe weather “in several regions of the US is affecting the UPS Air and Ground network, including UPS hubs in Louisville, Kentucky and Rockford, Illinois. Because of this, some delivery and collection services in these areas might be affected.”

The warnings come during one of parcel delivery’s busiest times, before Christmas on Sunday.
A robust winter storm paralyzed holiday air travel, with carriers canceling more than 6,000 flights and delaying more than 20,000 from Wednesday to Friday, including some of the busiest days of the vacation season. Snow and sleet within the Pacific Northwest also disrupted flights.
American, Delta, United, SW, JetBlue, Alaska, Spirit and other carriers have waived switching fees and fare differences at more than 50 airports if travelers can fly later.
