Target’s move to tug LGBTQ-themed merchandise from stores after customer backlash “is improper,” Recent York Attorney General Letitia James said Tuesday in a tweet Tuesday and urged the retailer to reverse its decision.
Not less than 14 Recent York City officials signed a letter regarding Target’s decision in response to James’ tweet.
Target last month said it was making some “adjustments” to its LGBTQ-themed Pride Month products, citing increased confrontations between shoppers and employees and instances of products being thrown on the ground.
The corporate has been selling Pride Month-related LGBTQ merchandise for years, but has faced increasing criticism for wearing the products, including from conservative news outlets and Republican politicians who said some products in its stores were being marketed to children.
Target didn’t immediately reply to a Reuters request for comment.
