Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was widely mocked on Twitter for a post asking Taylor Swift, using lyrics from her songs, to perform in Canada.
“It’s me hi,” Trudeau tweeted at Swift in response to her announcement of 14 recent international tour dates for her current tour, which didn’t include Canada.
“I do know some places in Canada would love to have you ever. So don’t make one other cruel summer. We hope to see you soon.”
While some praised Trudeau for coming out as “Swifty”, the tweet drew criticism from many social media users who mocked the Canadian leader, characterised his post as an indication of Canada’s struggling economy and questioned his priorities as wildfires proceed to ravage large parts of Canada. Canada.
“Direct update on the state of Canada’s economy,” tweeted filmmaker Lauren Southern.
“I had to double check it to be certain that it wasn’t a parody account,” author Jason James tweeted.
“Yes it’s true. That is our fan premiere with Taylor Swift. Apparently someone on his social media team thought it was idea. Canada’s global popularity has just reached a recent level.”
Swift’s tour, which kicked off in March in Arizona, includes greater than 100 shows through summer 2024 in the US, Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia, but none in Canada.
This is not the primary time Swift’s lack of Canadian stops has entered the political arena.

Last month, conservative lawmaker Matt Jeneroux filed what he called an “official grievance” on social media, begging her to book some dates in Canada.
