Twitter’s recent boss Elon Musk has revealed that former employees of the social media company ran a greedy Slack channel titled “Fauci Fan Club” – a reference to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert.
Musk tweeted this claim in a thread that was highly critical of Fauci, who was accused by the mogul of lying about so-called “function enhancement” research that some imagine could have played a task in the spread of the coronavirus.
“Despite these glaring issues, Twitter did have an internal Slack channel, not mockingly named ‘Fauci Fan Club,'” Musk tweeted late Tuesday. He didn’t specify what number of employees participated in the Slack channel.
Since taking on Twitter, Musk has been keen to point out that the company’s previous leadership had a left-leaning bias that promoted liberal narratives and banned conservative voices.
On Tuesday, Musk responded to a tweet by enterprise capitalist Marc Andreessen who posted a meme accusing Fauci of lying.
In a series of tweets, Musk linked to a Newsweek article titled “Fauci was ‘unfaithful’ in Congress on Wuhan Lab research, recent papers emerge.”
Newsweek story linked to The Intercept’s September 2021 article claiming that the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, headed by Fauci, provided funding for so-called “.
“Gain of function” is the process by which scientists studying viruses make them more pathogenic or infectious with a purpose to gain more knowledge about their behavior with a purpose to prevent future pandemics.
The NIH awarded funding to the NGO EcoHealth Alliance, which was conducting research in China on the potential infection of humans by bat-specific viruses, in response to The Intercept.
NIH scientists have denied that NIH-funded research in China poses a biosecurity risk.
The “gain of function” controversy stems from the debate over whether the coronavirus originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
At first, mainstream scientists thought the virus likely originated in a wet market in Wuhan, where exotic animals comparable to bats are sold to people.
But experts haven’t been capable of rule out the possibility of the coronavirus spreading in consequence of a laboratory accident where scientists let the pathogen leak.
Since Musk took over Twitter, he has shared with journalists documents often called “The Twitter Files” — insights into how the social media company’s previous management decided which content to limit on its platform.
Journalist David Zweig’s latest installment is titled “How Twitter Rigged the COVID Debate.” He accuses the site of “censoring information that was true but inconvenient for the US government. policy” and “discrediting doctors and other experts who disagreed with it”.
Zweig cites documents that he says show the Biden administration pressured Twitter to moderate or ban “anti-vaccine” accounts.
In his Twitter thread, Musk also posted, amongst other things: May 2021 National Review article titled “Fauci Argued Advantages of Gain-of-Function Research Outweighs Pandemic Risks in a 2012 Paper”.
Musk wrote in the caption of the tweet: “Augmentation of function” on this context is just one other way of claiming “bioweapon”.
“Some good nuggets [the National Review] article,” added Musk.
“It’s important to notice that Fauci was the creator of a 2012 paper arguing for research on the profit function! Obama correctly stopped it, but Fauci resumed it.”
Last yr, the Biden administration asked its intelligence agencies to research the origins of COVID. But the assessments and conclusions presented weren’t conclusive. Republicans, who regained control of the House of Representatives in the midterm elections, have promised to launch one other probe into the origin of the virus.
Thousands and thousands of individuals around the world have died from COVID, which continues to wreak havoc in China and persists in the United States. The pandemic has caused severe economic losses as businesses have shut down, schools have closed and day by day life has been disrupted.
Fauci was – and stays – a lightning rod of controversy as many right-wing voices blamed him and other public health officials for what they see as harsh lockdown measures.
Critics blame Fauci for his statements during the pandemic, including misleading remarks about the effectiveness of masks, in addition to promoting the COVID vaccine.
Earlier this month, Musk, a fierce critic of lockdowns, tweeted calling for Fauci to be impeached.
In the early stages of the pandemic, Musk attacked California state officials for forcing his Tesla factory in the Bay Area to shut down.
The move is claimed to have influenced Musk’s occupied with relocating Tesla’s headquarters to Austin, Texas.
Lone Star State and other Republican-led jurisdictions have clamored for justification, allowing corporations more freedom to operate during the pandemic, while Democratic-ruled areas have placed tighter restrictions on trade.
