Rocker Deryck Whibley, who founded the band Sum 41, has been hospitalized with pneumonia and faces the “possibility of heart failure,” his wife said Friday.
Ariana Cooper Whibley, who has been married to the “In Too Deep” hitmaker since 2015, shared a photograph of the Canadian musician being wheeled into an ambulance as he’s accompanied by two paramedics.
“Deryck and I were suppose to be in Chicago at once, celebrating our eight 12 months wedding anniversary however the universe had a unique plan for us,” Ariana, 32, wrote on Instagram Friday.
“We spent your entire night within the ER and can now be spending the subsequent few days here within the hospital as he fights through pneumonia.”
“The scariest part is that there’s quite a lot of strain on his heart they usually are telling us that there’s a possibility of heart failure,” she added.
The couple share son Lydon Idby, 3, and six-month-old daughter Quentin Arlo.
“This is clearly not our first time in a situation like this but it surely brings back quite a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs,” Ariana said of her husband, 43.
In her social media post, Ariana also shared a close-up photo of her holding the rocker’s hand within the hospital.
“I understand how strong he’s because I actually have witnessed what he has been in a position to overcome but that doesn’t make it any easier to see,” she went on.
“I’ll do my best to maintain everyone updated but in the event you could keep him in your heart over the subsequent few days, we could really use it.”
In April 2014, Deryck collapsed on the kitchen floor of his home on account of liver and kidney failure.
He spent every week in a coma, where his body detoxified from alcohol. The ordeal prompted him to ditch the booze and turn out to be sober.
The next 12 months, the rocker told Vice that his health woes happened at “the suitable time in my life.”
“I’m glad it happened now and never once I’m like, 50, because my body wouldn’t have been in a position to handle it,” he told the outlet on the time. “But it surely’s unlucky that it needed to even come to that. Nevertheless, now I’m feeling higher than I’ve ever felt. I’m healthier. I’m in the very best shape of my life.”
Following his stint within the hospital, in addition to Ariana’s depression and suicide attempt, the pair decided to kickstart their sobriety journeys together.
“We said, ‘We’re going to take our lives seriously at this point and figure this s–t out,’” Whibley told People in 2021.
Sum 41 announced in May that they’re disbanding after 27 years together.
The enduring punk band, which consists of Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo, said their time within the band “brought us a few of the very best moments in our lives.”
“We’re perpetually grateful to our fans each old and recent, who’ve supported us in any way,” the band said in a press release. “It is tough to articulate the love and respect now we have for all of you and we wanted you to listen to this from us first.”
They wrapped up their latest tour on Sept. 3, where they played alongside The Offspring and Easy Plan.
