It was an SMS quarrel that became an actual royal quarrel.
Prince Harry presents his side of the infamous matching dress between Meghan Markle and Kate Middletonby which the ‘Suits’ star was reportedly ‘sobbing on the floor’.
In his recent memoir Spare, the 38-year-old wayward royal claims Middleton, 41, began a passive-aggressive argument via text message 4 days before marrying Markle, 41, in 2018.
Middleton’s daughter, now seven-year-old Princess Charlotte, was to function a bridesmaid at the royal wedding. According to Harry, Middleton sent a message to Markle to complain that the young man’s dress didn’t fit properly.
“Charlotte’s dress is just too big, too long, too loose. She cried when she tried it at home,” the Princess of Wales allegedly wrote to her future sister-in-law.
In his memoirs, Harry explains that the dresses were of “French fashion”. they were hand sewn to specific dimensions without fittings. The Duke of Sussex said it was “not an enormous shock” to discover the dress didn’t fit perfectly.
At the time, Markle was in the midst of drama together with her father, Thomas Markle, who was caught posing paparazzi photos before the wedding. According to Harry, the preoccupied bride then took a day to respond to Middleton’s criticism.
“Meg didn’t answer Kate instantly,” writes the prince in his recent volume. “Yes, she had infinite texting about the wedding, but mostly she was coping with the chaos surrounding her father. So the next morning she texted Kate that our tailor was waiting for us.”
“I told you the tailor has been waiting since 8am,” Markle reportedly replied. “Here. in KP [Kensington Palace]. Can you are taking Charlotte to redo it like other mothers do?
According to Harry, this response “wasn’t enough” for Middleton, who as a substitute insisted that every one dresses “have to be redone”.
In his book, Harry states: “Meg asked if Kate was aware of what was happening now. Along with her father. Kate said she was well aware, but dresses. And the wedding is in 4 days!
The prince adds that Middleton had other “issues with the way Meg planned her wedding. Something a few page party? It went backwards and forwards.
The sisterly altercation reportedly ended with Middleton agreeing to take Charlotte to Markle’s tailor, bluntly writing, “Good.”
But the arguments were allegedly an excessive amount of for Markle to bear, and Harry said he found his future wife “sobbing on the floor” when he got home.
He insisted to Markle that “Kate meant no harm” during this exchange, and noted that the Princess of Wales arrived home the next morning with flowers and a card apologizing for any upset.
Nonetheless, the drama was removed from over – the incident soon leaked to the media and have become tabloid fodder.
According to initial reports, Markle made Middleton cry over a dress fitting fight – something that enraged Harry because it was allegedly inaccurate.
Palace officials allegedly refused to issue a public statement disputing such reports, further fueling the prince’s anger towards the royal family.
Inside Harry’s bomb interviews
In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle stated that she was in reality the one who was brought to tears during the argument and complained that staff members refused to correct the record.
Speaking of Middleton, Markle stated: “I hope she would love that to be corrected, and perhaps in the same way that the palace would not let anyone else deny it, they would not let her because she’s an excellent person. “
Middleton refused to speak publicly about the bridesmaid dress drama, embracing the royal family’s “never complain, never explain” manta. It’s unclear if she was also brought to tears after the fight.
