A clouded leopard named Nova escaped from its enclosure on the Dallas Zoo and was on the prowl Friday – prompting the animal park to shut as police rushed to seek out it, officials said Friday.
“Given the character of those animals, we consider the animal remains to be on the premises and hiding,” the zoo said tweet on Friday morning. “Right away, we’re focused on locating the animal.”
Zoo officials announced a “code blue” to signal that a “non-dangerous animal” had freed itself from its habitat after a staff member discovered the irresponsible cat was missing on Friday.
Because the wild chase unfolded, officers were “on the spot assisting with the search,” in accordance with the zoo, which offered no other immediate information but said it might proceed to post updates.
Native to Southeast Asia, clouded leopards can grow as much as 50 kilos and 4 feet long with sharp, dexterous paws for grabbing branches, – we read on the web site of the National Zoological Garden.
They might be aggressive towards one another, but are generally sociable in captivity and have rarely, if ever, harmed people on this setting.
This is not the primary time the Dallas Zoo has needed to fight to catch a tenant who escaped from the enclosure, in accordance with the Dallas Morning News.
A charging gorilla was killed by police in 2004 after it escaped from a zoo and injured three people, including a small child who was bitten on the pinnacle and chest and thrown against a wall.
