He was paid a high price.
John Larroquette revealed on Thursday that he and the director of the 1974 slasher The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made a deal that Larroquette would narrate the film’s prologue in exchange for marijuana, Parada reports.
“Totally true,” confirmed Larroquette, 75, “He gave me some marijuana or a box of matches or whatever it was called back then. I left with [recording] studio, patted him on the back and said, “Good luck!”
According to the “Night Court” actor, he and Tobe Hooper became friends when Larroquette was working as a bartender in 1969.
“Tobe heard that I was in town and asked for an hour of my time to tell something for this film he had just made,” recalls Larroquette. “I said, ‘Okay!’ It was a favor.
Laroquette was finally paid – this time in money – when he began talking about several sequels to “Massacre”.
“You do something without cost in the 70s and get some money in the 90s.” – he said. “It’s definitely the one credit that stuck firmly on my resume.”
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre killed on the box office, earning $30 million from its $100,000 budget, and has since produced several spin-offs.
At one point, Larroquette revealed that he had never seen any of the “Massacre” movies.
“I’m not an enormous fan of horror movies,” the 75-year-old explained.
