Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned alongside King Charles in a royal coronation ceremony this spring, it was revealed Saturday.
The couple will travel together on the Gold State Coach to Westminster Abbey, be crowned together and appear together on the Buckingham Palace balcony on May 6, the palace said Saturday.
Camilla Parker Bowles will be the first royal to be crowned in nearly a century, since George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother took the throne in 1937.
Although he was considered a prince consort, Phillip followed tradition and was not crowned next to Queen Elizabeth in 1953, but as a substitute knelt before her.
Camilla’s coronation will mark an enormous break with royal tradition. Camilla, who was initially rejected as a future queen by Queen Elizabeth, will turn out to be the first divorcee to be crowned queen consort.
