Sorry, Jeff – this one is for girls.
Jeff Bezos’ girlfriend Lauren Sánchez said in a latest interview with The Wall Street Journal that she planned to take an all-female journey into space with Amazon founder’s space production company, Blue Origin.
Five women will join her on the journey.
“These will probably be women who’re changing the world, making an impact and having a message to send,” she told the outlet.
The mission is scheduled for early 2024, with the names of the passengers to be announced at a later date.
The WSJ report was Sánchez’s first solo interview since her time relation with Bezos went public in 2019, shortly after announcing his divorce from ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott.
The interview also talks about Sánchez’s relationship with Bezos and the business advice he gave her (keeping meetings under an hour, speaking as boss).
Sánchez is a former TV journalist and helicopter pilot who began her own film company, Black Ops Aviation, for Insider.
“Straight away, I’m immersed in philanthropy and strategic giving,” she told the outlet. He also has a latest production company, Adventure & Fellowship.
Bezos and Sánchez are also working together to select the winner of the Bezos Prize for Courage and Courtesy, which was awarded awarded Dolly Parton in 2022, donating $100 million to her charity of her alternative.
But don’t expect Bezos to disrupt the girls’ outing. “He’s going to be cheering for all of us from the sidelines,” Sánchez said, adding that Bezos is “excited that this might occur with all these women… He’s very encouraging and excited, and he’s excited that we’re putting this group together.”
Sánchez’s non-profit activities include This Is About Humanity, which helps deliver supplies to children separated from their parents on the U.S.-Mexico border, supporting the Bezos Earth Fund, which fights climate change, and dealing with the Bezos Academy, a Montessori free school system.
Bezos told CNN in an Exclusive which aired in mid-November and as promised, many other billionaires will give away most of their money.
Meanwhile, Scott’s ex-wife donated over $14 billion as of 2019, most of which comes from the Bezos settlement.
Bezos all the time planned to give away his money, Sánchez said.
“Jeff has all the time told me since I’ve known him that he’ll donate most of his money to philanthropy,” she said.
