From Foo Fighters to food fighting.
Musician Dave Grohl made a surprise appearance at a Los Angeles shelter last Wednesday preparing meals for tons of of hungry homeless people.
The 54-year-old Foo Fighters frontman spent 24 hours Hope MissionTrebek Center in Northridge, cooking 450 dinners.
The rocker’s cooking was confirmed by Mission Development Director Grace Ancheta, who said the star even brought her own smoker along with her.
Ancheta said Today that Grohl was somewhat of a barbecue expert, making brisket, ribs and pork tenderloin.
“He arrived around 3pm after which he was in our kitchen,” Ancheta told the publication. “He would prepare the meat, cut it, and be there until he put it within the smokehouse.”
“The meat didn’t get to the smokehouse until midnight that night because he said, ‘Oh, he has to season it and he has to do it,'” added Ancheta. “He’s definitely a craftsman with regards to that, after which he spent the night.”
Ancheta added that Grohl was “very gracious” and was comfortable to take pictures with fans who recognized him,
“He didn’t want any glory for it,” Ancheta insisted. “He said, ‘I just need to do that for you and repay you this fashion.’ “
While cooking, Grohl supported Hope the Mission founder and CEO Ken Craft and President and CFO Rowan Vansleve as they jointly raised money to open three recent family shelters.
Craft and Vansleve ran 350 miles from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to boost the last $350,000 they needed, and Grohl said some encouraging words in video posted on Instagram after day 12 of their marathon.
“And within the midst of our 350-mile run to finish homelessness, we got the good video ever from Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl,” the captioned video posted by Craft and Vansleve. “Not only [he] wish us luck, but he has been cooking for tons of of people that live in our shelters within the midst of considered one of the worst storms.”
“Nothing but love and respect for Dave,” they added, sharing a series of photos of Grohl preparing food at the shelter.
