Fans of fried chicken rejoice! KFC resurrects fan favorite bunless and ‘cult’ menu item.
After a nearly 10-year hiatus, KFC Yum Brands announced the return of its iconic and fast-selling Double Down sandwich on Thursday.
The bunless sandwich consists of two slices of cheese, two pieces of crispy smoked hickory bacon and mayonnaise or spicy sauce sandwiched between two KFC “Extra Crispy” chicken fillets.
A success with fried chicken gourmets, Double Down sold a staggering 10 million sandwiches when it was first released in 2010.
KFC brought it back for a limited time in April 2014, however the sandwich had been off the KFC menu for about nine years.
It is going to now return for a limited four-week run on Monday, March 6.
“Double Down is certainly one of the most well liked items on the fast food menu,” said Nick Chavez, CMO, KFC US.
We even have excellent news for purchasers who like sandwiches in a bun.
KFC Launches Recent Premium Bacon Cheese Chicken Sandwich featuring “100% Extra Crispy™ Double Breaded White Meat Filet, Slice of Cheese, Two Pieces of Smoked Peanut Bacon, Colonel’s Real Mayonnaise and Pickles on a Freshly Baked Brioche Bun,” in line with the announcement press.
“We all know that giving up buns is not for everybody, so our latest Bacon and Cheese Chicken Sandwich is designed for those searching for the coveted bacon and cheese flavor in a chicken sandwich perfected by fried chicken experts.” said Chavez.
These recent additions come shortly after KFC removed several popular items to “simplify” its menu.
The fast food chain promised “exciting recent additions to the menu in 2023” to compensate customers for the loss.
