“I have been doing it since I used to be 17 – well, around 15 – but I have been working rather a lot since I used to be 17. I spent 10 to fifteen years, like a latest city, a latest country, every three months. And it’s like starting school again every few months. Especially if you’re younger, if you haven’t got that foundation. It was really hard for me.”
The 33-year-old said this prompted her to seek out a spot to place down roots.
“Perhaps if the reward is sweet and you’re feeling really great doing it, then that is OK. But I didn’t. So I wanted to ascertain this for myself on a private level and have a greater sense of belonging somewhere, not only on a movie set that ends every few weeks,” she said.
Wasikowska returned to Sydney a couple of years ago and has since been working on independent Australian projects corresponding to Blueback, a drama about an oceanographer advocating coral reefs against poachers, which got here out last 12 months.
The ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ actress said she would love to work in Hollywood movies on occasion but cannot imagine returning to Los Angeles full-time.
“I’m quite pleased,” she said. “If I could have one of the best of each worlds, which is to dip out and in of it on occasion, I’d be really pleased. But I’d never be where I used to be just on the treadmill.
“I would like to do more things in life than being in a trailer. It’s great and there is lots of great things [but] the perception of it is totally different from the fact. And it didn’t suit me as an individual. You may really lose perspective because you’re treated quite strangely. When that is your only reality, it’s pretty weird.
