Rochelle Berman’s ‘monster’ quest for justice has veered too near home.
The previous radio and TV presenter secretly recorded countless hours of conversations with former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle in an effort to prove he was a baby predator.
“Will you let me see your kids naked?” Fogle shockingly asked Herman, the mother of a then-10-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son, during one such recorded conversation.
This query was a turning point for Herman, causing his stomach to contract.
“It was a vital, decisive, critical moment in my life,” Herman recently told The Post, reflecting on the incident. “I feel as if I died that day.”
Her undercover operation also uncovered chilling conversations in which Fogle expressed interest in kid’s “nice, clean bodies”, suggested that he and Herman “should try to observe child pornography together”, and even marveled at a sexual encounter with “little boy” on a visit to Thailand.
“It was amazing… Oh, it was so hot, baby. It was so rattling hot,” Fogle said of the meeting before asking Herman, “Would you reasonably have a bit of boy or a bit of girl please you?”
These recordings – in addition to the revelations of two of Fogle’s victims and his once-key associate Russell Taylor – are revealed in a harrowing latest documentary seriesJared from the subway: Catching the monster”, which can premiere on Monday, March 6, on the ID i network Discovery+.
This system features many other horrific, never-before-heard confessions from Fogle a few covert operation by Herman, who became an FBI asset to construct the case. (Fogle declined to participate in the documentary series.)
Fogle lost 245 kilos eating Subway sandwiches before becoming a salesman for the corporate. When he wasn’t doing commercials, he went to varsities to speak about food plan and exercise and racked up thousands and thousands of dollars as the general public face of the corporate, hanging out with Will Ferrell, George W. Bush and fluffy Muppet buddies Kermit and Miss Piggy, as well sharing your stories in interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, Piers Morgan and more.
Fogle, a father of two, also preyed on underage children.
The primary conversation with Fogle that spurred Herman to motion took place through the taping of a segment of a television program at a faculty in Sarasota, Florida in 2006. Fogle didn’t realize that his and Herman’s microphones were hot – and that is when he opened as much as his inner thoughts for the primary time.
“He leaned over to me and above a whisper he leaned over and said how hot he thought the center school girls were,” recalled the shocked 55-year-old Herman to The Post.
“I knew what he said was exactly what he felt. I knew there was something very sinister about this man,” she continued. “Behind the smile and the friendly presentation she puts off, it was really a mask.”
But Fogle wasn’t the one person in his inner circle who wore a mask. Taylor, his world-traveling director of the Jared Foundation, dated and later married Angela Baldwin, an Indiana native, and have become stepfather to her two children, Hannah Parrett and Christian Showalter. It entered the lives of women in 2012, once they were 10 and 13 years old, respectively.
“After we first met him, he was very charismatic,” Parrett, now 21, told The Post in a joint interview with Showalter. “Good and sociable, obviously.”
But that façade faded as their mother – who, in line with Showalter, previously raised her children in a “sheltered” religious home – modified over time, including going out and partying loads.
“She just became a very different person than she was,” Showalter said.
For Baldwin, this even meant allowing hidden cameras to be placed throughout the home – including in the women’ bedrooms – in order that Taylor, an amateur videographer, could capture her children in private, intimate moments reminiscent of “having a shower, using the lavatory, changing my clothes in my bedroom,” Parrett told The Post.
“Jared was a puppet master,” Showalter, now 24, told The Post. “After which Russell and my mom were puppets.”
in April 2015Taylor was arrested for possession of kid pornography and was found to have greater than 500 explicit photos in his home, in line with a latest series of documents. Baldwin he was later implicated and arrested for producing and possessing child sexual abuse material.
Just just a few months later, in August 2015, Fogle himself was arrested and charged with child pornography and distribution, and fascinating in business sexual acts with minors.
Fogle, 45, pleaded guilty to child pornography charges and was sentenced to fifteen.5 years in prison in November 2015. Baldwin given over 33 years after a May 2022 trial, while Taylor, who previously pleaded guilty, he received a 27-year sentence.
Unfortunately for Baldwin’s children, in addition to FBI mole Herman, the memory of the abuse persists.
Showalter and Parrett viewed among the video and photographic evidence collected by prosecutors – documentation that included “full-body nudity” of the 2 sisters, Parrett said.
“Knowing that something happened is one thing. Physically seeing the evidence of what happened is a complete different thing,” Parrett told The Post. “You may’t get these images out of your head. I mean, they’re ceaselessly ingrained in my brain.
“Truthfully, it made me feel really sick.”
Showalter echoed her feelings, saying she was “speechless” seeing the pictures and felt like “almost being a victim again” in the method.
And while neither sister could say she felt fully “locked in,” each agreed that their mother had met the proper fate.
“I’m a mother now and I do not know the way she could have hurt us like this,” said Showalter, who’s engaged and has a 10-month-old daughter. “It’s just so hard for me to just accept it. And I believe her leaving and disappearing from our lives really helped me come to terms with that.
Her sister Parrett agreed.
“He’ll spend 33 years in prison, so he has loads of time to reflect,” she said. “And I feel like she needs it. I could not imagine doing such horrible things to my children and having the ability to live with myself for the remaining of my life.”
Within the meantime, Herman desired to share a message for other victims of sexual abuse.
“You have got all the ability,” she said. “Possibly you did not have the strength the moment you were defeated – be it mentally, physically, psychologically, emotionally, whatever. Just go higher, and whenever you’re at the bottom level, there is not any other place to go but to go up.”
All three parts of Jared From Subway: Catching a Monster will premiere back-to-back at 9 p.m. EST on Monday, March 6 on ID, and can even stream on Discovery+.
