Austin Butler rocked his infamous “Elvis” accent at the Oscars on Sunday – much to the chagrin of fans uninterested in hearing his tackle a Southern accent.
Live from the champagne carpet, Butler said ABC that being nominated for an Oscar “appears like an unimaginable dream” and he needs to “pinch himself”.
“Each time I’m in front of individuals like me, I get nervous,” he added along with his Elvis gleam.
Fans, nevertheless, would like Butler to just be himself vocally, with many making fun of it on Twitter.
“Austin Butler still has a trace of that accent and I’ll shove it in the locker” one Twitter user wrote.
“I’m sorry, I’m not sorry, but it surely’s so embarrassing to hear Austin Butler speak with an Elvis accent” one other replied.
One he was even joking: “shoot each time Austin Butler uses an Elvis accent.”
At the very least one fan was impressed that he still accentuated, writing“Austin Butler deserves an Oscar simply for not losing that rattling accent.”
TO ME! red carpet host Laverne Cox asked Butler what his favorite a part of “embodying” Elvis was, as he previously said the character “became a part of the fiber [his] existence.”
The actor replied that after the trial he appears like a distinct person and it’s hard to pick only one thing “since it’s such an element of my life.”

Butler’s voice has a noticeably deeper tone since starring in the drama, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022.

“I often compare it to when someone lives abroad for a very long time, and for 3 years I focused only on this in my life,” he argued. “So I’m sure there are only pieces of my DNA that may at all times be connected in this manner.”
Butler’s singing coach, Irene Bartlett, told ABC Gold Coast in January that he believes “it’s hard to turn off something you spend a lot time on.”
She attributed his inability to change his voice to the COVID-19 closures, explaining that he had spent years making a “connection” with Elvis’ personality. The music icon died in 1977 at the age of 42.

“If I attempted to sound like Elvis, I might sound completely different now,” said Butler. “I feel it’s funny how much people want to concentrate on that one thing.”
Only when he showed up British chat show “The Graham Norton Show” last month when he revealed he was changing his tone.
“I’m eliminating my accent, but I probably damaged my vocal cords from all that singing,” he joked. “One song took 40 takes!”
