Ben Affleck doesn’t play golf since it reminds him of methamphetamine.
The actor revealed this in a recent interview “Hollywood Reporter” to advertise his upcoming film “AIR” – which depicts the dynamic partnership between the then-undiscovered Michael Jordan and the Nike basketball division that revolutionized the sports world with the historic Air Jordan brand.
Affleck delved into the topic, explaining that he met Jordan on the golf course to get the NBA legend’s blessing so he could tell his story within the Amazon video.
“I said, ‘Please, can I leave? Affleck recalled asking Jordan.
“And he was great. – Yes No problem. Come to the golf course. He went out to fulfill him. I waited for him to complete playing. I do not play golf myself. ‘Cause I just feel like it’s eating up people’s lives.
“I take a look at golf as methamphetamine. They’ve higher teeth, but people never appear to recover from it. Once they begin golfing, you only never see them again.”
Jordan has a known love of golf that dates back to when he played for the Chicago Bulls within the Nineteen Nineties – a hobby he has continued into retirement.
This wasn’t Affleck’s first encounter with Jordan.
“I play cards with Michael sometimes and we now have friends in common,” Affleck said. “And… None of this sounds good, okay?” And it isn’t like he’d say, “Oh yeah, Ben is my boyfriend.” [Imitating Jordan’s voice.] He would say, “Yes, I do know him.”
Affleck – who is an avid sports fan from Boston – said Jordan is a “hero” to him.
“And I do know what a very important and significant figure he is, especially within the African-American community,” Affleck said.
“For those who’re going to fuck and speak about Michael Jordan, do it respectfully. Nobody asks you to do a hagiography, but do it well.
Affleck produced, directed and starred in “AIR,” which will probably be released in theaters worldwide on April 5.
He plays co-founder and former Nike CEO Phil Knight.
The film stars Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker and Viola Davis.
The film is the primary work of Affleck’s recent production company, Artists Equity, which he founded with Damon, his friend of greater than 40 years.
Last month, Affleck was a part of the NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he introduced the players and coaches of the 2023 Ruffles Celebrity Game on the John M. Huntsman Center.
Affleck tied the knot with Jennifer Lopez in Las Vegas in July 2022 – and the couple organized second ceremony in August, held on the actor’s estate in Riceboro, Georgia.
