Gwyneth Paltrow and the retired optometrist who sued her crossed paths again, this time to mark the end of Thursday’s skiing accident trial.
As Paltrow left the Utah courtroom victorious and $1 richer, she touched Dr. Terry Sanderson’s shoulder and reportedly whispered, “I wish you all the best,” according to video footage obtained by The Post.
He seemed to say “Thanks, darling” without emotion.
The 50-year-old actress smiled and waved to photographers outside the court, ending a crazy eight-day trial that made headlines around the world for all the pieces from an Oscar winner Jeffrey Dahmer style glasses to her remarks outside the wall.
After deliberating for about two and a half hours, the jury found that Sanderson, 76, was at fault in the 2016 ski slope collision, not the founding father of Goop.
“We’re pleased with the final result and appreciate the attention of the judge and jury,” Paltrow’s attorney, Steven Owens, said in a press release outside the courtroom.
“Gwyneth has a history of standing up for what’s right and this example is not any different. She is going to proceed to rise up for what is true.”
The statement was also issued by Paltrow’s representatives on her behalf.
“I felt that agreeing to a false claim violated my integrity,” Paltrow said. “I’m pleased with the final result and appreciate all the labor of Judge Holmberg and the jury and thank them for his or her care in handling this case.”
The Post contacted Sanderson’s representatives for comment.
Sanderson sued Paltrow in 2019 for $3.1 million, claiming that an accident at the Deer Valley ski resort left him with a brain impairment and damaged his relationships with others.
After the judge dismissed his initial criticism, Sanderson again sought $300,000.
Paltrow filed an objection for just $1 – plus her likely six-figure legal fees – which the jury awarded her because they agreed the accident was Sanderson’s fault.
Paltrow remained calm on Thursday as Judge Kent Holmberg delivered the verdict, though she allowed herself a small smile.
Lots of of 1000’s of individuals watched the live stream of the trial, and much more followed the footage posted on social media.
In a single heavily criticized clip, Sanderson’s lawyers asked Paltrow how the accident affected her.
“Well, I wasted half a day skiing,” she said icily.
Meanwhile, Sanderson made a bizarre comparison Wednesday between Paltrow and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which the judge directed the jury to ignore.
