On Wednesday, Warner Bros. Discovery has unveiled its recent flagship streaming service called Max – which can mix shows from HBO Max and Discovery+.
During a streaming event held on Stage 14 at Warner Bros. in Los Angeles, CEO David Zaslav said the corporate’s recent bundled service will launch on May 23 and can cost between $9.99 and $19.99 a month.
“That is our time, that is our opportunity, anything is feasible,” said Zaslav, explaining that streaming is critical to the corporate’s success.
The move means HBO Max subscribers will probably be migrated to Max, while Discovery+ subscribers is not going to be asked to migrate, the corporate said.
“Max is the one to observe,” said the CEO, revealing Max’s tagline, which he repeated several times before introducing JB Perrette, president and CEO of streaming and gaming at the corporate.
“This recent brand signals a vital shift from two narrower products, HBO Max and Discovery+, to our broader range of content and consumer offerings,” Perrette said moments later about Max.
He noted that HBO’s premium shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Succession,” and “Sex and the City” will probably be featured on Max.
The launch of Max comes a yr after WarnerMedia and Discovery accomplished a $43 billion merger that brought together properties resembling HBO, CNN, TNT, TLC, The Food Network and HGTV under one umbrella.
Despite recent criticism from Hollywood over merging the corporate’s popular streamers HBO Max with Discovery+ to create its Franken service, Zaslav stressed on Wednesday that the move would offer a “big selection” of content, allowing it to compete with big hits like Netflix and Disney+.
“Keeping subscribers is just as vital as adding subscribers,” said Zaslav. “Everyone within the household can watch something here.”
Warner Bros. Discovery currently has 96.1 million streaming subscribers on HBO, HBO Max and Discovery+. The corporate didn’t break down subscriber numbers into services. Meanwhile, Netflix has over 230 million subscribers and Disney+ has over 162 million subscribers.
The brand new service, which can include critically acclaimed series like HBO’s “White Lotus” alongside TLC’s cheesy reality series “90 Day Fiance,” will cost $9.99 a month for 2 simultaneous account logins and no downloads or ads. Users will pay $15.99 for no ads, two logins and 30 downloads, or $19.99 for 4 logins and 100 offline downloads plus higher audio quality and 4K resolution.
“We’re on a mission.” – said Zaslav, closing the presentation. “Our mission is to be the one to observe.”
