The British are said to be “rejoicing” over Meghan Markle’s rejection of an invite to the upcoming coronation of King Charles III.
A spokesman for the palace confirmed that while Prince Harry will attend the event on May 6, Mark will stay at their sprawling California mansion.
The ceremony coincides with the birthday of the couple’s son, Archie, who turns 4. Rumor has it the conflicting schedule is the Duchess’s reasoning for not going to London.
Speaking on Sky News on Friday, author Sophie Elsworth attacked Marklearguing that he’s “obsessive about being in the media” and “dominant headlines”.
“I am unable to consider this woman is not going because she’s obsessive about herself,” Elsworth said, claiming Brits were “glad” that the former Suits actress would “stay away” from the ceremony.
Elsworth said it was a “good decision” that Markle, 41, was not attending, given how Londoners “scorned” the couple at the Queen’s Jubilee celebration last 12 months.
The coronation comes months after the publication of the Duke of Sussex’s bombshell diary Spare and the premiere of the couple’s unflattering docuseries on Netflix.
Markle, 38, and Harry have reportedly signed a $100 million take care of the streaming giant for his or her six-episode show, while Spare has develop into the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time.
“This guy did so much of damage to the royal family and made a fortune,” Elsworth said of Harry. “Shame on him, but let’s hope he behaves well at the coronation.”
The Every day Mail quoted unidentified sources claiming the royal family is “not interested” in talking to Prince Harry at the coronation after the couple’s wedding departure from royal life and move to the US in 2020.
Elsworth’s remarks echo reports from palace insiders – namely that Kate Middleton is “relief” at the expected absence of her sister-in-law. An unidentified source said Middleton, 41, would feel “uncomfortable” in the presence of the Duchess.
Tom Bower, the royal biographer, stated that Middleton “would not have invited her there under any circumstances”, effectively stopping Markle from accepting the invitation.
Her alternative to remain at the Golden State was slammed by royal watchers who crowned her a ‘martyr’ – with Meghan McCain knocking Markle for “cowardly”.
There have been reports from the King that he was “disenchanted” that Markle would not be at the ceremony.
“It’s sad, he’s very disenchanted he won’t see Meghan or his grandchildren, but he understands the situation,” the source said.
The abyss of the invitation got here to an end this week as a Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed Harry and Meghan’s plans.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to verify that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” a spokesman said. “The Duchess of Sussex will stay in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Markle won’t be the just one missing the festivities. Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and ex-wife of Prince Andrew, has been royally snubbed.
She gave the impression to be in a very good mood talking to Hello! Magazine this week, claiming she never “expected” the invitation and as a substitute “would have a small tea room and a coronation chicken sandwich.”
Elsworth found it “a bit rough” that the 63-year-old creator would not be present at the coronation.
“People love Fergie. I believe he’s a bit of a royalty,” she said, arguing that Ferguson, who goes by the name of Fergie, “made headlines for the incorrect reasons.”
“I believe people would fairly her get the invitation than Meghan Markle, but , it’s as much as them to choose who and apparently she’s not on the list,” she added.
