Howie Nicholsby dresses the biggest A-Listers in kilts to impress.
The fourth-generation kilt maker was once tasked with dressing Vin Diesel, who grew up in Greenwich Village and whose mother is of Scottish descent, for the 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards in Edinburgh, Scotland – and his kilt killed him.
“The producers wanted them to alter outfits throughout the show,” Nicholsby, 44, told The Post a number of days before the Recent York festivities. Tartan Week Saturday parade on Sixth Avenue.
“He tried on a leather kilt and said, ‘Rattling it, that is the bomb. I wear it the entire fucking show.”
Nicholsby who is the owner based in Edinburgh Kilts of the twenty first centuryhe can trace his celebrity connections all the way back to his parents.
They constructed the kilt Mel Gibson wore to the Braveheart premiere and visited Charlton Heston’s West Hollywood mansion to measure it.
“My mom had to carry Moses’ cane,” Nicholsby said.

But, he recalled, his parents, Geoffrey and Lorna, irritatingly “didn’t let me take a day without work school to fulfill Scotty from Star Trek.”
Since then, he has dressed other daring names akin to Ozzy Osbourne, John McEnroe and Prince Albert of Monaco.
In 2009, he fitted Lenny Kravitz right into a kilt in Newcastle, England, ahead of the singer’s concert in Glasgow, which ended sadly.
“He wore a kilt; he shook. He looked amazing,” said Nicholsby.
“But while the show was on, Michael Jackson died.
“They were good friends and were just working on something together.”
His creations – which range in price from around $900 to simply over $3,000 – are mostly made from a mix of polyester wool or tweed, but he’s also known for his edgy denim and leather creations.

Nicholsby began coming to the Big Apple for the Tartan Day Parade in 2000.
“Tartan” refers to the bars that discover Scottish clans.
“Scotland has a really old birth, death and marriage certificate. It dates back to around 1100,” he said.
“So in case you know your surname and your loved ones are from Scotland, you may get a loose connection to what we call a clan.”
Although she at all times maintains the tradition of dress code, sometimes she likes to alter things up.

“The best way I wear the kilt, depending on what color is in season, what is going on on, say with hoodies, jeans or leather, I’m attempting to be a bit like Cher or Madonna, changing my look every few years,” he said .
“But the basis continues to be the same.
“It’s still a kilt and trendy boots.”
