‘Beef’ star David Choe is gutted online over a re-aired clip wherein he discusses the sexual assault of a masseuse at a Los Angeles spa – a story he later claimed to have made up.
The graffiti artist originally made inflammatory statements about non-consensual oral sex in 2014, however the footage was recently re-posted on Twitter, where it sparked a storm of backlash.
Choe, 46, plays criminal Isaac Cho in Beef, Netflix’s dark recent series a couple of traffic incident that spirals uncontrolled.
The hugely popular recent streaming series starring Ali Wong and Steven Yuen has received rave reviews and now boasts 98% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Nevertheless, Choe’s role was questioned online after an investigative journalist Aura Bogado posted a disturbing clip on Twitter from the artist’s now defunct podcast “DVDASA”.
The tweet has since been removed “in response to a request from the copyright holder,” in accordance with Twitter officials.
In a 2014 episode titled “Erection Quest”, the previous “Vice” author overtly discussed touching a “black” masseuse without her consent, bragging about being a “successful rapist”. Buzzfeed reported.
Choe detailed how he forced her to perform oral sex, though she “gave me no indication that she was in love with me or that it was the precise thing to do.” reports the Day by day Mail.
“You understand, the fun of with the ability to go to jail, that is what completed the erection mission,” Choe exclaimed within the clip.
“Eh, you are principally telling us now that you simply’re a rapist,” replied co-host, adult film star Asa Akira, in accordance with The Independent.
Nevertheless, he defended his alleged actions, joking that “she said so together with her eyes”. A month later, Choe released a press release saying it was all a joke – a “sharp” extension of his previous forays into the art of pressing buttons.
Choe didn’t reply to the post’s request for comment regarding the video. The Post also reached out to Netflix for comment on the re-interview.
Within the meantime, pointless to say, many recent “Beef” fans were appalled by the clip.
“Ughhhh… Just after I began to like this actor, he ruined the entire picture. male podcasters = trash” exclaimed one horrified fan on Twitter.
One other wrote, “What? He should be in prison. With every silly person laughing on this movie not far behind.
Others threatened to boycott the show.
“I’m 4 episodes behind, but after hearing this, I’d call it a season” declared a dissatisfied fan. “I cannot support this project. And yes, one person CAN spoil the whole program or experience.
“That is sick and disturbing and we wonder why rape culture is prospering,” only the girl protested, “other male cowards stood by and have become complicit bystanders.” one other was furious. “I had beef on my to look at list but no #BoycottBeef @netflix do higher.”
Nevertheless, the muralist issued a press release a month after the episode’s original airing, claiming that the account was completely unfaithful and was fabricated for entertainment purposes.
“If I’m guilty of anything, it’s poor asshole-style storytelling,” Choe wrote on his now-defunct website. “Just as a lot of my paintings are sometimes misinterpreted, so is my show. The foremost purpose of all my podcasts is to challenge and provoke my friends and coworkers on the show.”
Choe added, “It’s my version of reality, it’s art that offends people sometimes. I’m sorry if anyone believed these stories to be true. They weren’t!”
The artist suggested that the comments were consistent with “DVDASA”, which he called “a dark, tasteless, completely disrespectful show”.
Choe is best known for making a fortune after being hired decorate Facebook headquarters with quite a few paintings.
He reportedly opted for stock options as a substitute of money as payment and ended up making a staggering $200 million when the corporate went public in 2012.
