Fox Corp. and its cable networks agreed on Tuesday to settle a Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit over false claims about Dominion machines affecting the end result of the 2020 presidential election.
The settlement, which got here after a jury sat all the way down to hear the case in a Delaware courtroom, prevented a week-long trial wherein top Fox TV hosts and network boss Rupert Murdoch were allowed to testify publicly.
The deal was made as opening arguments, the trial was delayed for hours amid speculation about settlement talks.
The terms of the deal weren’t immediately known.
“The parties have settled this case,” Judge Eric Davis told jurors shortly before 4 p.m. EST.
“Without you, the parties wouldn’t have been in a position to resolve their situation … even though it is brief and not the six weeks you expected, you could have done your duty,” Davis said. “The matter has been clarified.”
