Fox News’ parent company, Fox Corp. and Dominion Voting Systems, agreed on Tuesday to settle a legal battle, avoiding a high-profile lawsuit over the voting machine company’s claims that it was defamed by webcasts following the 2020 presidential election.
Dominion lawyer Justin Nelson claimed the settlement was for $787 million.
Fox in an announcement said the settlement reflects “the continued commitment to the best standards of journalism.
We hope that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, moderately than the bitterness of a divisive process, will allow the country to maneuver away from these issues.”
The voting machine company was looking for $1.6 billion in damages.
But shortly before 4 p.m., Delaware Judge Eric Davis told the jury that a settlement had been reached – ending a two-year legal battle.
“The parties have resolved this matter,” Davis said.
“Without you, the parties wouldn’t give you the chance to resolve their situation … even though it is a brief, unexpected six weeks, you’ve gotten done your duty,” added the judge.

Dominion claimed that Fox News hosts and guests spread false claims that their voting technology helped rig the election in favor of Joe Biden
Fox argued that it covered newsworthy claims by associates of then-President Donald Trump and that his broadcasts needs to be protected by the First Amendment.
