Actor Ray Buffer pleaded guilty in court Thursday to stealing comic books from a San Diego company that caught the shameless theft on tape after which embarrassed him on social media.
Buffer’s case ended months after Southern California Comics released footage of him hiding comic books under his shirt before running out.
The actor has had minor roles in a variety of hit series over his profession, including Curb Your Enthusiasm and CSI: Miami.
Within the San Diego Superior Court, he pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of petty larceny for the theft of $854 value of comic books on October 4, 2022, a spokesman for the San Diego city attorney’s office said Thursday.
Buffer, 55, must return the stolen value to Southern California Comics and avoid the shop, town’s attorney’s office said.
He has been sentenced to sooner or later in custody, after which he’ll report to prison to be placed in custody and released and serve a 12 months’s probation.
He must also complete 12 hours of community service and take an anti-theft course.
Jamie Newbold, owner of Southern California Comics, told The Post he was comfortable to see things behind him.
“The person stressed me, he stressed my employees, we stayed stressed,” Newbold said. “Scared, I have a look at customers in a different way, wondering who will hurt us next, and now the stress is taken off my shoulders because not less than we won and we all know we are able to find justice even when we’ve got to do it ourselves.”
In October, the corporate posted photos of an unidentified man on social media to alert comic book stores to a potential thief. Other corporations claimed that the person was Buffer, Newbold said on the time.
He was charged a few months after the October 4 incident.
Buffer’s Instagram account posted the caption “Caring for business in San Diegowith three skilled photos of himself in a collage on Thursday night.
He had other minor roles in single episodes “Gilmore Girls”, “Cold Case” and “ER”, according to his IMDb page.
