Conservative radio talk show host Larry Elder announced Thursday that he’s jumping into the 2024 Republican presidential race, joining a growing group of candidates vying for the party’s nomination.
“I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States,” Elder told Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
“I feel I even have a moral, religious and patriotic duty to provide back to a country that has been so kind to my family and me – and that is why I’m doing this,” he said.
The 70-year-old political commentator told Carlson that his campaign would give attention to issues related to frame security, crime and “police defamation”.
The elder also noted that he was going to denounce the “shameful lie” that the United States is systemically racist and draw attention to the “no fathers in the home.”
“America is in decline, but that decline shouldn’t be inevitable. We are able to enter America’s recent Golden Age, but we must select a leader to steer us there. That’s the reason I’m running for President.”—Elder he wrote in a statement he tweeted after his announcement.
His campaign slogan appears to be “Now we have a country to avoid wasting!”
The elder was the major opponent of Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom during the state’s failed 2021 impeachment attempt over his response to the pandemic.
Elder is scheduled to talk at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition this weekend, where he will probably be joined by other GOP 2024 presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who initiated a study committee last week .
Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy also launched their 2024 presidential campaigns.
