A Russian soldier who was drafted as a part of President Vladimir Putin’s unpopular mobilization campaign got drunk and beat his commanding officer to death on a military train, according to court officials.
The deadly attack took place last Friday in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia.
According to investigators, an unnamed staff sergeant was sitting in a carriage reserved for members of the military when he attacked the captain, who was also drafted under a preliminary order.
The officer was pronounced dead from his injuries at the Misyash railway station. He has not been identified.
The military court in Magnitogorsk ruled that the sergeant will remain in custody for 2 months on charges of committing acts of violence against the commander during the mobilization, which carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, according to court officials.
In September, Putin ordered the mobilization of 300,000 reservists to reinforce Russian forces fighting in Ukraine.
Since then, there have been quite a few reports of disgruntled conscripts getting drunk and fighting with other soldiers and officers.

By comparison, in the entire fiscal yr 2021, customs only recorded about 4,100 meetings with Russian asylum seekers.
