You might say it is a stunt – but apparently the phallic shape wasn’t intentional.
A Maltese Armed Forces (AFM) helicopter appeared on Monday and created a penis-shaped flight pattern over the island of Comino in Malta.
The incident left many in the aviation industry with raised eyebrows the motion was first spotted by Flightradar24.com.
The favored website tweeted: “Meanwhile in Malta…”
In line with the manufacturer’s website, it’s “a helicopter that may adapt to many missions” and boasts “excellent performance”.

The helicopter made a series of intricate loops that, when viewed on a map, formed a particular shape.
Many assumed the stunt was intentional, nonetheless the AFM said Malta times that the flight pattern was “taken out of context”.
“The flight trace shown was segmented because the helicopter was flying at low altitude and didn’t show the accomplished flight path,” an AFM spokesperson said.

The post garnered loads of attention online with over 10,000 likes and lots of of comments.
“I used to be on a small island where this was drawing, we thought he was in search of something, I suppose not ahaha,” one person wrote.
“I hope it was planned. Not only a random flight. Great,” one other person added.
A third joked, “Looks like one other artist at work!”
Another person posted a map of the plane’s flight in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, which also took the same shape on January 11.

In line with a blog on the Flightradar24 website, while unusual flight patterns will be the result of air surveys, flights used to calibrate instrument landing systems and pilot training, sometimes the cause of flight paths is less clear.
Flightradar24 shared the same view in November, when several US Air Force pilots “drawn” a penis in the sky.
The brazen creature was spotted near Tartus, the Kremlin’s naval base in the Mediterranean.
The stunt, which became popular at the time, is believed to have been performed by an aerial refueling aircraft crew aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker.
One aviation expert told Times Now: “They were on a refueling mission, which is normally just an extended oval, repeated over and once again…. so that they added “balls”. No extra taxpayer money was spent.”
