A 2-year-old boy was swallowed by a rebellious hippo in Uganda and then spat out after a bystander began throwing stones on the animal, in response to police, in response to police.
The unnamed toddler was playing alone near his lakeside home in Katwe Kabatoro on Sunday when a hungry hippo grabbed him with its massive jaws, Capital FM Uganda reported.
Before the creature could swallow it, an astute bystander, Chrispas Bagonza, began throwing rocks on the animal – causing it to “vomit” the boy back, in response to the nest that first reported the story.
Based on the report, the toddler was taken to a hospital for treatment in the nearby town of Bwera, Congo, and the hippo was returned to the lake.
“[Bagonza] stoned a hippo and scared it, causing it to drop the victim from its mouth,” Ugandan police later said British Telegraph.
“It took the courage of 1 Chrispas Bagonza who was nearby to save lots of the victim.”
It’s estimated that hippos kill at the very least 500 people a yr in Africa, devouring their victims with tusks that may grow as much as a foot in length.
