Lucky travelers scooped up heavily discounted airfares after a Japanese airline encountered a currency conversion error this week – some passengers got $10,000 price of tickets for just $300.
Bargain hunters raced the All Nippon Airways (ANA) website for cheaper tickets, with one lucky flyer paying just $890 for a top quality flight from Jakarta to the Caribbean via Tokyo and Latest York and back, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
A journey that covers a whopping 9,000 miles would cost less favorable ANA travelers about 20 times as much for a top quality seat.
Other attentive shoppers bought business class tickets for a couple of hundred dollars – a bargain compared to the usual cost of $10,000.
Typically, business class airfares cost between $8,300 and $10,400, but they have been offered at between $300 and $550.
News of the pricing error quickly spread on social media, though it’s unclear how many individuals took advantage of the offer.

Johnny Wong, who works in the aviation industry, told Bloomberg that he had booked a business class return ticket from Jakarta to Honolulu for 13 million dong, or $550.
The fee of the flight he bought is now $8,200.
“I never thought I’d find a way to make a deal like this,” said Wong.

The ANA said on Wednesday that the error occurred due to an error on its Yietnam website that contained an incorrect currency conversion.
The airline didn’t say how many individuals were able to buy discounted tickets, but said it was “investigating the reason for the error and the extent of its damage.”
An ANA spokesman told Bloomberg it will stand by the bookings made during the mistake, but later backtracked and said an official decision had yet to be made.

The airline expects to make a call by the end of the month, but discounted tickets purchased for use before May might be honored, the AMA said.
Most of the tickets purchased at the cheaper price were for trips from the Indonesian capital Jakarta to Japan, then on to Latest York and back to various destinations in Southeast Asia, corresponding to Singapore and Bali.
AMA is not the first airline to by accident sell its best tickets at a bargain price.

The airline began honoring these tickets.
