Amazon is asking some corporate employees to relocate to other cities as part of its return to the office policy, which requires employees to be within the office three days every week.
An Amazon spokesperson on Friday confirmed that relocations were happening, but didn’t comment on reports by several news outlets that the tech giant required some employees from smaller offices to move to major offices positioned in larger cities.
Amazon didn’t provide details on the number of employees that can need to be relocated. Amazon spokesman Brad Glasser said the corporate would supply “relocation advantages” to employees who’re asked to relocate and would consider requests for exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
“There’s more energy, collaboration and connection because we work together at the least three days every week and we have heard that from many employees and businesses surrounding our offices,” Glasser said in a prepared statement.
“We proceed to search for the perfect ways to bring more teams together in the identical locations and will probably be communicating directly with employees as we make decisions that affect them.”
Relocations mean an escalation of the corporate’s efforts to bring employees back to the office. In February, Amazon introduced a latest policy that might require employees to be within the office three days every week. The policy went into effect in May, prompting tons of of corporate employees to protest outside the corporate’s Seattle headquarters. Amazon previously allowed team leaders to define how their teams perform.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in February that the corporate had made its decision bring employees back after seeing what worked throughout the pandemic. He said, amongst other things, that the senior management team watched how employees fared and talked to leaders at other firms. He said they’ve found that employees are more personally involved and easier to collaborate with.

According to internal reports, Business Insider reported previously, Amazon employees who refuse to relocate near their teams’ important offices are being told that they have to either discover a latest job internally or leave the corporate via “voluntary resignation.”
The corporate has cut 27,000 jobs in the previous few months.
