Throughout her profession, Anya Taylor-Joy has never felt confident with her “distant eyes.”
Interview given by the 27-year-old W warehouse in 2016, she resurfaced after a recent tweet that went viral talking about her facial expression.
Account Pop Tingz she wrote concerning the old profile on April 14 and noted that Joy had stopped herself in mirrors after seeing mean comments online.
Within the “W” story, the “Split” star recalled how social media contributed to her low self-esteem.
“I definitely remember when Facebook was a thing and I used to be never aware my eyes were far apart after which someone tagged me in photo with a fish they usually were like, “It’s you because your eyes are here,” she explained to the publication.
“And I used to be very nervous about it and I didn’t prefer it and I finished looking in mirrors for a really very long time,” she admitted.
The “Queen’s Gambit” icon continued: “I still don’t spend much time in front of the mirror because I do not really want to handle my face. Unfortunately, you all do.
She also recalled her friends throwing soccer balls at her head because her “eyes really were on each side of my face.”
“It became common knowledge on the playground that when you want me to catch the ball, you have got to throw it to the side of my head, because when you were to throw it right here, I’d be like, ‘Oh my God. What? What happened? What is going on on?’” She sighed.
Joy also confessed that she learned to like herself over time.
“And now it looks like my face has grown a bit. In a way, I’m growing into myself. I’m just a little less awkward,” she said.
Many fans rushed to Joy’s defense after the leaked interview.
