A Brisbane accountant can be remembered for breaking the world record for the most push-ups in an hour.
33-year-old Lucas Helmke performed an insane 3,206 push-ups during a successful world record attempt at a gym in Brisbane, officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
For individuals who have trouble wrapping their heads around this number, it averages out to 53 per minute.
The previous record of 3,182 was set by one other Australian, Adelaide-based mechanic Daniel Scala, in April 2022.
Helmke tried to make this record to “encourage” his one-year-old son, attempting to “show him that nothing is unimaginable”.

The Queensland man trained for three years to interrupt the record, with the official attempt going down at the Iron Underground gym in Brisbane.
He did push-ups in 30-second sets, aiming to finish 26 push-ups in each set, although he actually exceeded his goal of averaging 26.7 push-ups in each 30-second set.
To qualify for the world record, Helmke had to take care of perfect form for each push-up or they might not count towards the total. In total, 34 – about 1 percent – of his push-ups were rejected.

For every push-up, he had to maintain his body straight, there have been no visible flexes at the knees or waist, and the body needed to be lowered until the elbow was a minimum of 90 degrees, then lifted up until straight.
But that is just the starting of Dad’s Brisbane world record quest. Now he plans to interrupt a minimum of one record annually.
“This can be the first record I would really like to set out of many other push-up records,” said Helmke.

“Then move on to other physical records.”
Nevertheless, he can have stiff competition – media in Florida recently reported that the man has already beaten Helmke’s record by one other 58 push-ups. Nevertheless, this effort has yet to be officially recognized.
