Barbara Corcoran is referred to as the quick-witted “Shark Tank” star who even billionaires like Mark Cuban look to for advice.
But the actual estate mogul says she wasn’t at all times confident, especially growing up with dyslexia.
“If I wasn’t dyslexic and I did not have a tough time at school, I do not think I might have been successful, consider it or not, because I feel every part I’ve done in my life has been one long try to show the world that I’m not silly,” Corcoran said in an episode of the Diary of a CEO podcast appearance posted on her Instagram page.
A method Corcoran learned to extend her confidence was to make use of people doubting her as motivation — even when she doubted herself. If she found herself in an “insecure situation,” she replaced negative self-talk with positive affirmations.
She suggests we “replace the tape” in the best way we discuss ourselves.

“It takes so much to recover from the damage done in case your self-perception is a negative one from the get-go,” Corcoran told viewers.
Corcoran, in fact, is the founding father of probably the most successful real estate firms on this planet (The Corcoran Group). She’s also invested thousands and thousands in entrepreneur’s businesses.
