Best Buy is cutting store staff across the US as an electronics retailer looks to chop costs and shift more towards e-commerce, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people conversant in the situation.
The layoffs would affect hundreds of jobs at Best Buy stores within the U.S., the report said, adding that the laid-off employees could nevertheless reapply for company vacancies or receive severance pay.
This week, several shop staff who specialise in selling more complex products akin to computers and smartphones were told that their jobs could be eliminated.

“As we reported last month, we’re evolving our stores and experiences to higher reflect changes in customer shopping behavior in addition to how our teams are organized,” said Best Buy.
In January, Best Buy had greater than 90,000 employees in the USA and Canada, including roughly 58% full-time employees, 32% part-time employees and 10% seasonal staff.
