Because the hockey world gathers in Nashville for Wednesday’s 2023 NHL Draft, you never know who you may meet on the streets.
That was when the Penalty Box Radio crew turned to “Kyle from Chicago” to check his hockey perceptiveness.
What interview Alex Daugherty didn’t know was that Kyle was actually Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson.
A hilarious exchange followed, with Davidson joining in.
It began with Davidson asking about his knowledge of hockey on a scale of 1 to 10.
“Probably 4,” replied Davidson. “A fan of the game, I do not know, some say I do not know that much.”
The Chicago GM who picked Connor Bedard with the primary pick within the draft smirked as he finished his answer.
He was then asked to call as many NHL players as possible in 20 seconds, and Davidson named 17, including several Blackhawks players from Stanley Cup winning teams.

The depth of data impressed Daugherty, who was still unaware of what was occurring, or that Davidson had been a part of the organization in the course of the 2013 and 2015 Stanley Cup runs as hockey administration coordinator.
The pièce de résistance to the comical clip got here at the top when Davidson was asked if he thought the league rigged the draft to present the Blackhawks the primary overall pick.
“No,” Davidson replied shortly. “I’m very confident (wasn’t).”

A minimum of Daugherty could laugh at himself for not identifying one of the vital popular men on the town straight away.
“That is without a doubt essentially the most hilarious and spontaneous thing that has happened in my hockey profession,” he tweeted.
“People… I had no idea who this man was. And he ended up being the GM of the Blackhawks.
Nonetheless, there was no mistaking Davidson later that day when he led an eventual Chicago situation on stage to choose Bedard, the 17-year-old hockey prodigy to be the franchise’s latest face.
The 17-year-old Bedard scored 71 goals and 143 points for the Western Hockey League’s Regina Pats last season and helped Canada win gold on the 2023 World Youth Championship with 23 points in seven games.
