Buckingham Palace was closed on Tuesday after a man was caught carrying and throwing suspicious items on royal grounds – just 4 days before King Charles’s coronation.
British Metropolitan Police arrested the man after he approached the gate around 7pm local time and “thrown various items” believed to be shotgun shells.
Law enforcement officials confiscated the man’s “suspect bag” and carried out a controlled explosion as a precaution.
“Officers immediately took motion to detain the man and he was taken into police custody,” Chief Superintendent Joseph McDonald said. he said in a press release.
“There aren’t any reports of shots fired or injuries to officers or members of the general public.”
Witnesses said The Sun that an unnamed man visited the Palace at night and shouted, “I’ll kill the king.”
His detonated bag contained two passports, a phone, a wallet, keys, and an instructional book called The Luck Edge, which helps readers “rewire our brains to be positive.”
Buckingham Palace said neither the king nor his wife Camilla were within the palace on the time of the incident.
