House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (Republic of Kentucky) asked the Secret Service to fill out his panel on a bag of cocaine present in the White House earlier this week.
“The presence of illegal drugs in the White Home is unacceptable and a shameful moment in the history of the White House,” Comer said in friday letter to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
“Congress funds White House security procedures, and the Secret Service has a duty to take care of effective security protocols,” Comer continued. “This incident and the possible evacuation of staff now clearly raise concerns about the level of security being maintained at the White House.”
A Secret Service agent was reported to have discovered a “white, powdery substance” on Sunday in a locker in the West Wing entrance area – near the Situation Room and one floor below the Oval Office.

White House staff and visitors use the holding area to store phones and other personal items that will not be allowed to be taken to other parts of the complex, an official aware of the situation told The Post earlier.
The find on Sunday evening prompted a transient evacuation and further testing by the DC Hazmat team, with the Secret Service confirming the substance was cocaine.
On Wednesday, Comer told Fox News host Jason Chaffetz that he had “national security concerns,” given how easily the illegal drug entered one among the world’s most secure buildings.

“After all there are a lot of explanations for what happened there. But you understand, at the end of the day, with all the money and all the security we’ve around the White House, something like this could never occur,” the Republican said.
The chairman of Oversight also told Chaffetz that he plans to analyze how much time Hunter Biden’s first son – recovering from a crack addiction – spends at the executive mansion.
“We’re concerned that the president’s son, whom we’ve been saying for seven months that he’s a threat to our national security, spends a lot time in the White House. We now have reports that he spends more time there than Joe Biden,” Comer added. “We do not really know where Hunter Biden lives.”

The House inquiry follows a separate request from Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arc) on Wednesday to find out who can have entered the west wing at the time the drugs were left.
“If the White House complex just isn’t secure, Congress must know the details in addition to your plan to repair any security holes,” Cotton wrote. in his letter to Cheatleasking for answers to numerous questions regarding the security of the executive residence by next Friday, July 14, at 5:00 p.m.
An Arkansas Republican requested information on those that are subject to less stringent security measures – and can have bypassed K-9 secret service screening for West Wing visitors.

“Illegal possession of cocaine is a felony under federal law. If the Secret Service discovers the identity of a one that brought illegal cocaine into the White House complex, will they make an arrest under this provision? Cotton also asked.
The Secret Service is predicted to finish its investigation by Monday, in accordance with NBC News, after combing through visitor logs and security camera footage to look for the perpetrator – in addition to checking for fingerprints and DNA.
“We’re doing the whole lot we will to find out who can have brought this item into the White House,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told The Post on Thursday. “And that features every resource that covers every option available to us or the federal government.”

White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates declined to reply questions on Thursday about the origin of the white powder, directing all reporters’ inquiries to the Secret Service.
“I’m relying on Secret Service professionals to handle it,” he said during a meeting aboard Air Force One en path to South Carolina. “I’m just not going to interact in hypotheses about it.”
President Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and Hunter left the White House for Camp David on June 30, returning Tuesday to have fun Independence Day on the South Lawn.
