Daniil Medvedev attacked an alleged heckler throughout the opening match of the 2023 Australian Open.
The Russian skilled tennis player opened this yr’s tournament on Monday with a first-round match against American Marcos Giron on the Rod Laver Arena. But when Medvedev was about to finish the match, he turned to the viewer and he yelled at them to “fuck you.”
The gang sighed loudly.
Medvedev, seeded seventh within the tournament, won the primary two sets 6-0, 6-1. The incident occurred in the ultimate match of the third set when he was leading 5-2.
Medvedev was hit by a code violation by the pinnacle referee, and the 26-year-old player shook his head in response.
This is just not the primary time Medvedev has had problems with fans on the Australian Open. Last yr, he complained to the pinnacle judge that he was suffering from “empty brains… idiots.”
“The sound. It’s disappointing. It’s disrespectful. I’m undecided I’ll need to play tennis after 30 years,” he said, referring to fans hissing at him.
On the time, Medvedev believed that the mockery of the fans could possibly be attributed to his Russian nationality.
“I feel nationality plays a key role,” he said. “I can definitely see whenever you [are] playing someone from one other country, they’d follow him, not follow him [the] Russian…or something like that. I feel like there’s quite a bit more buzz around tennis in Russia now. Let’s hope we attempt to encourage more people to follow us.”
Medvedev is listed as +450 to win the Australian Open at PointsBet, second best odds behind Novak Djokovic who’s the favourite with odds of -110.
Medvedev will face Australia’s John Millman within the second round on Tuesday.
