Twitter CEO Elon Musk has cut the corporate’s paid parental leave policy from 20 weeks to just 14 days, according to internal company documents.
The San Francisco-based social media platform modified its previous policy to “whatever is required by law within the region where employees work, together with a ‘top up’ of two weeks of vacation,” wrote Recent York Times reporter Kate Conger, who cited for an internal note.
In California, state law allows staff to take up to 12 weeks of “unpaid leave with job protection.”
This offers young mothers working at Twitter headquarters little time to get well, unless they’re willing to risk their jobs and take unpaid leave.
The response online was scathing.
“Two weeks! What do they expect in 2 weeks and the infant might be going to the bathroom alone?!..as a former tweeter and as a parent I am unable to relate to that” wrote a Twitter user.
“As a former Twitter worker who oversaw the US LOA (leave) and introduced the 20 week policy in 2016, that is DEPRESSING” Tina Forrest tweeted.
“I’m sorry to hear about amazing policies/shows which can be being scrapped.”
Other Offended Twitter user Musk as “misogynistic and anti-labor.”

One current Twitter worker took to the social media platform Blind to avenge Musk, writing sarcastically: “You continue to love the neatest man on this planet?”
“Elon can throw himself off a cliff,” wrote one other blind user.
Other Twitter users criticized Musk for his earlier statements concerning the urgent need to increase the world birth rate.
The post asked for comment on Twitter.
Tech corporations vying for top talent have historically been amongst probably the most generous within the private sector, offering their employees parental leave that goes beyond what’s required by law.
Google’s parental leave policy allows fathers to use up to 16 weeks, while moms may be paid by bonding with a newborn for twenty-four weeks.
Brooklyn-based online shop Etsy offers its employees a generous 26-week fully paid vacation policy.
Musk, one among the world’s richest tycoons thanks to his stake in electric automotive company Tesla, bought Twitter last fall in a highly leveraged deal value $44 billion.
Because the takeover, Musk has made radical changes, including shedding greater than 70% of the corporate’s workforce – which had 7,500 people before the takeover last yr and has now been reduced to around 2,000.

The Twitter boss also made several cost cuts, including revoking perks and privileges equivalent to allowances for things like “wellness”, home web and Wi-Fi costs, company-wide activities referred to as “Camp Twitter” and day care costs.
Twitter has also lowered cell phone allowances in addition to money put aside for work-related travel expenses.
Wanting money, Musk’s company has been searching for ways to increase revenue after advertisers left the positioning within the weeks and months following the tycoon’s takeover of the corporate.
