Mayor Eric Adams ran a race against Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Monday, claiming that Republican Party politicians are busing 1000’s of migrants to the Big Apple and elsewhere to “harm black-ruled cities.”
Adams made the explosive claim in a seething statement – regardless that the Democratic mayor of Mexican descent sent greater than twice as many migrants to each Latest York and Chicago.
Hizzoner suggested that Abbott recently backed off from continuing to send buses of illegal migrants turned asylum seekers to Latest York, only to re-plan his “moral bankruptcy” agenda.
“This weekend we learned that Governor Abbott is once more selecting to gamble with people’s lives in politics by resuming bus transportation of asylum seekers to Latest York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver and Washington,” the black Democratic mayor wrote in press release list.
“Not only is that this behavior morally bankrupt and devoid of any concern for the well-being of asylum seekers, it’s also unattainable to disregard the incontrovertible fact that Abbott is now attacking five cities run by black mayors.
“To place it bluntly, Abbott is using this crisis to harm black-ruled cities.”
Abbott’s office denied ever stopping sending migrants to the Big Apple or sending buses to Los Angeles or Denver.
Abbott, who’s white, said the buses are supposed to protest what he calls the Biden administration’s dangerously lax immigration policies and the choice of chosen municipalities to turn out to be “sanctuary cities” that don’t report illegal immigrants to deportation officials.
The Republican tactic was condemned by the Democratic White House as a political “publicity stunt”.
But even the mayor of El Paso, Oscar Leeser, a Democrat of Mexican descent, has sent migrants from his city to the Big Apple – in reality, greater than twice as many as Abbott has since spring 2022.
Abbott’s office said it had sent greater than 5,200 migrants to the town, while Leeser had arranged bus transportation to Latest York for 10,713 migrants. database of migration crises.
Leeser was not singled out by Adams for anti-black racism on Monday – even after he hinted he might soon increase the number of migrant buses from his city to the Big Apple as Title 42, a pandemic-era policy used to expel some 2.5 million asylum seekers under the health guidelines expires on May 11.
Abbott’s office added that along with Latest York, it has flown greater than 9,100 migrants to DC and greater than 1,500 to Chicago.
El Paso said it also sent a further 3,259 migrants to Chicago, greater than twice what Abbott said.
But again, El Paso’s Democratic mayor was not named in one other passionate letter in regards to the controversy, this time from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to Abbott on Sunday.
Lightfoot, who’s black, demanded that the Republican stop the “inhumane and dangerous” bus transportation of asylum seekers to her city. Lightfoot has accused Abbott of racism up to now but shunned making the accusation in her letter.
Last week, the Big Apple saw one other spike in migrants – including 1,300 in only three days, although neither their entry points nor their origins were clear.
On the time, Adams asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to step in, denying states permission to make use of grant money to repatriate asylum seekers.
A spokesman for Adams said Monday that Texan migrant buses to the Manhattan Port Authority had not been arriving since January, but city hall received word from FEMA over the weekend that the practice would resume soon.
Regarding the transportation of migrants from Texas to Los Angeles and Denver, the representative said FEMA had informed city hall that this is able to occur.
Neither FEMA, Abbott, nor Los Angeles or Denver officials responded to The Post on Monday.
Nearly 60,000 asylum seekers have flooded Latest York City since last spring, in response to city statistics.
Town said it doesn’t know exactly where the overwhelming majority of them come from if Abbott’s and El Paso’s records are correct. At the very least some were brought here from Arizona.
About 75,000 migrants have entered the US within the last 10 days alone, in response to US Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz.
Two weeks ago, Adams accused the Biden administration of turning its back on the town and causing “one of the most important humanitarian crises” in its history as officials sheltered tens of 1000’s of migrants with local taxpayer money, creating an estimated $4.2 billion shortfall, in response to City Hall.
Adams warned that the number of people looking for refuge within the Big Apple could soon rise to 100,000 once Title 42 expires.
“Despite Abbott’s inhumane actions, Latest York City will proceed to do every part in its power to deal with this influx, but this crisis is multiple city can handle,” his statement continued.
“Faced with a scarcity of leadership within the border states, we want the federal government to step in and supply us with support and to stop further atrocities.”
As of 2021, in response to U.S. Customs and Border Protection statistics, some 3.2 million migrants have entered Texas alone – most traveling through Mexico to flee failing governments and persecution in Central and South America and Caribbean countries. They enter illegally after which seek asylum within the US.
In keeping with the town’s database, El Paso, the busiest border crossing for detained migrants, receives greater than 1,400 asylum seekers a day.
