China’s peace proposal to end the war in Ukraine is “extremely unfair” since it doesn’t respect the country’s territorial integrity, the everlasting secretary of the Estonian Ministry of Defense has said.
Beijing spent approx 12 point peace plan in February.
Helping Ukraine is the responsibility of the “wider global community,” said Kusti Salm. Nevertheless, he said China’s plan was not fair to the Ukrainian people.
“Any time we measure… the feasibility of any peace deal, it needs to be measured by the identical principles. Will we eradicate aggression as a tool?” asked CNBC’s Squawk Box Asia on Friday.
“Will we respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of independent nations?”
He said these are “key ingredients and elements which can be missing” in China’s peace proposal. “That is something I’d like to say [is] extremely unfair to the Ukrainian individuals who fought for his or her freedom.
No breakthrough on the Xi-Putin meeting
Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three-day visit to Russia ended on Wednesday. Throughout the trip, Xi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The 2 leaders exchanged warm words and called one another “dear friends.”
The meeting didn’t bring a major breakthrough in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Xi and Putin called for “a halt to all activities that lead to tensions and prolongation of fighting in order to prevent the crisis from deepening and even spiraling uncontrolled,” reads a joint statement published by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
The statement didn’t mention the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Kremlin’s large-scale military attack that led to hundreds of deaths and much more refugees.
A powerful ally
Estonia, a Baltic republic, borders Russia. He was considered one of Ukraine’s strongest allies in that war.
Estonia has been “on the forefront of supporting Ukraine from the start,” Salm said, adding that it had provided Kiev with “full-spectrum” military assistance, reminiscent of tanks.
On Monday, the Estonian Ministry of Defense announced that it had reached an agreement on sending a million 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine.

in an announcementEstonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said that the initiative “will provide Ukraine with urgently needed military assistance as soon as possible and can increase the production capability of the European defense industry.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that if Europe hesitates to support Ukraine, “the evil could have time to regroup and prepare for years of war.”
“It’s in your power to prevent this from happening,” Zelensky said in a speech to members of the European Council on Thursday.
Russia “beats through” Ukraine
Russia “surpasses” Ukraine when it comes to artillery, “by a ratio of 1 to 10,” Salm said. “It is a scary factor,” mainly due to supply issues.
He said that Moscow uses more artillery ammunition than European industry can produce in a month.

“That is something that needs to be addressed, since it shouldn’t be only a matter of helping Ukraine,” he said, adding that “it is usually a defense readiness of NATO forces.”
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an “existential theme for Estonia,” Salm said.
“Now we have to be certain that not only will Ukraine win the war, but the entire concept of aggression should be eradicated from the history of war,” he said.
