Ford tells owners of greater than 140,000 SUVs within the US to park them outside because they’ll catch fire even with the engines off.
The corporate is recalling some Lincoln MKC SUVs from the 2015-2019 model years. Ford says the 12-volt battery monitoring sensor could also be short-circuited. It could actually overheat and cause a fire within the engine compartment when stationary or in motion.
Owners are asked to park away from the structure until repairs are made. The sensors may be damaged when servicing the battery or related electrical parts.
Ford says in documents released Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it has 19 reports of fires that could be related to the issue within the US, China and Canada. The corporate said it was unaware of any injuries.

Dealers will add a fuse to the battery monitor sensor power circuit. Owners shall be notified by letter from June 26.
