Four men were ejected from the Jetstar plane and were banned from traveling on Jetstar and Qantas after they were accused of “verbal abuse” of cabin crew and other passengers.
A bunch of men were flying from Brisbane to Melbourne on Monday night when things unfolded.
Jetstar asked Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers to satisfy the plane upon arrival at Melbourne Airport, and the men were faraway from the plane.
The airline told news.com.au that the group “gave the impression to be intoxicated, refused to follow instructions and verbally abused the crew and other customers.”
“The security of our crew and customers is our primary priority and we don’t tolerate any disruptive or abusive behavior on our aircraft,” the spokeswoman said.
It also confirmed that 4 passengers were banned from traveling on Jetstar and Qantas while the incident was being investigated.
Footage obtained by 7 News showed at the least three cops boarding the plane after which escorting the men.
AFP said news.com.au officers were called to assist “nuisance passengers” and the 4 men “followed police directions to get off” the plane ahead of the remaining of the passengers. No person has been charged.
The incident got here after AFP Deputy Commissioner Security Command Specialist Alison Wegg was warned ahead of the long weekend that there could be a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social and criminal behavior.
The AFP has stepped up patrols on the nine airports it’s liable for to take care of increased passenger numbers.
Deputy Commissioner Wegg specifically warned travelers to watch out about how much alcohol they devour.
“Recently, we now have seen disturbing and unacceptable behavior where travelers have shown complete disregard for fellow passengers and airline staff,” she said on Friday.
“While it is just not illegal to devour alcohol on our planes and airports, we’re asking the general public to be mindful of how much alcohol they devour.
“People who find themselves unruly on a plane should understand that this may increasingly mean they’ll not have the opportunity to travel and it will affect their family holiday plans in addition to other passengers.”
