Moonwalking astronauts will have sleeker, more flexible spacesuits that will are available in quite a lot of sizes after they step on the lunar surface later this decade.
Exactly what it looks like has remained a mystery. The corporate that designs next-generation spacesuits, Axiom Space, said on Wednesday that it plans to have latest versions for training purposes for NASA later this summer.
In line with the corporate, the lunar suits will be white as they were during NASA’s Apollo program greater than half a century ago. Due to this, they’ll reflect heat and funky future moonwalkers.
In line with the Houston-based company, the suits will offer greater flexibility and higher protection against the tough conditions of the moon, and will be available in a wider range of sizes.
NASA has awarded Axiom Space a $228.5 million contract to supply equipment for the primary lunar landing in over 50 years. The space agency plans to land two astronauts on the moon’s south pole in late 2025 on the earliest.

At Wednesday’s event in Houston, an Axiom worker fashioned a dark space suit by squatting and twisting on the waist to reveal its flexibility. The corporate said the ultimate version will be different, including the colour.
“I didn’t want anyone messing it up,” said Russell Ralston of Axiom.
